Bought new in January of 1980 so it's been here 40 years now.Īs a companion to the long-snouted one, this early 1950s 4-inch K-22 was acquired in more recent times. 22 handgun ever acquired is this Smith & Wesson Model 17 K-22 Masterpiece with 8 3/8-inch barrel. 22 rifles more and more.Ĭan dispense with the handguns in short order. As I get older I find I want to piddle with. Way more rifles are on hand than handguns. 22s very much and a goodly pile of 'em are on hand here, picked up over many years time. This is a great thread! The kind of guns in this thread warms one's heart. You can see where the 16 year old me whittled the bolt recess off a stock I found that had been pulled off another Savage, but on that was a semi-auto.

22 rounds and property covered in pines full of pine cones for me to shoot out of the trees. Some of the best afternoons as a kid living out in the middle of nowhere was having a brick of. 22 they’re getting rid of, I consider making an offer. Heck, as short as it is, I like shooting it too. I like happening upon one on sale and being able to get them something that fits. Most guns were a little large as I was a scrawny kid.

When I was that age (9) I was using a full-sized pump action. one suited to their size with a stock adjustable for length of pull I swapped in. but I just got one of those tiny little Savage rascals the middle of last year to let the kids try. If I ever saw one, I’d probably get it on an impulse buy. 22 with a tubular magazine, but you never see them in most shops. Marlin is the only company I know of that still makes a new production bolt action. I’ve had a couple model 60 Marlins but traded out of the last one a couple years back and don’t know if I’ll get another. 10-22, a speed master 552, a Sears something or other semi-auto. 22s I’m not terribly attached to that were bought/traded off folks or passed down guns that weren’t mine as a kid. 22 rifle with them and I can probably spare a shotgun if it’s something they’d want. And keeping it locked if kids or untrained people are around. My goal through middle age was to acquire enough firearms so that, when the kids are grown and have their own place.

Gun owners still have take precautions of not loading rifle until ready to shoot. If you will be the only one using the Nylon 66, no problem. Then insist on “playing with the real gun”, anyway.

Some children and others do not always know how to do this.

Cannot tell if rifle is loaded just by looking at the outside. Little kids may not know how to disengage locked open bolt. Last shot bolt hold open can head off trouble like this. A problem with kids of 3 or 4 years old, and sometimes older. With disastrous results if someone gets hurt or killed when gun fires.

With several generations of young children playing “shooter” video games, watching TV and movies, and sometimes not getting the correct information on proper gun handling, there is sometimes a risk of “look, a real gun! I know how to handle it!” Then pulls on the trigger without checking to see if gun is cocked and loaded. Prevents “I didn’t know it was loaded” excuse. The last shot bolt open provides a positive visual signal that rifle is no longer loaded. Those with little to no firearms experience at all.
